Scientific knowledge knows no bounds as two bright student-researchers from Davao Oriental Regional Science High School (DORSHS) make their mark on the international conference stage.
Angelo Lloyd M. Pilapil and Kris Marc Kee L. Lumikid, with their dedicated advisers Gene Pearl A. Luna and Kristal G. Entrino, will present their groundbreaking papers at the Basic Science International Conference 2023 in Malang, Indonesia.
The conference, from July 17 to 18, gathered brilliant minds from various corners of the globe to share their research, insights, and advancements in basic sciences. It provides an excellent platform for these young researchers to showcase their innovative ideas and discoveries to the international scientific community.
Angelo Lloyd M. Pilapil will present his research on “Assessment of Anthropogenic Marine Debris in Sitio Bangunay, Brgy. Bobon, Mati City,” highlighting the urgent need for sustainable waste management in coastal communities.
Kris Marc Kee L. Lumikid’s paper on “Fish Gastrointestinal Analysis in Triangle Market, Brgy. Dahican, Mati City” sheds light on the impact of microplastic pollution on marine life and human health.
The journey of Pilapil and Lumikid to the international conference was not without challenges. It required tremendous effort, financial support, and the collective backing of numerous individuals and institutions.
Schools Division Superintendent Winnie E. Batoon recognized the potential of the two student researchers and sought assistance from City Mayor Michelle N. Rabat and Provincial Governor Nino Sotero L. Uy, Jr.
Both officials graciously provided much-needed financial support for their travel expenses.
The Davao Oriental community also rallied behind the students, organizing a walk for a cause to support their travel last June 16. The collaborative efforts of government officials, school personnel, students, and residents showcased the community’s commitment to fostering scientific excellence.
Jessica M. Lumapas, DORSHS principal, expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming support from various stakeholders. She emphasized how the combined efforts of government officials, school administrators, teachers, students, and community members showcased the collaborative spirit vital in nurturing and encouraging young talents in science.
The participation of Pilapil and Lumikid at the Basic Science International Conference 2023 is a testament to the power of collective support, determination, and the pursuit of scientific excellence.
