Gender and Development Corner

GAD Overview

The Gender and Development (GAD) perspective recognizes that gender concerns cut across all areas of development and therefore should be given importance. In fact, gender inequality remains a significant issue in many societies and has negative consequences for both women and men. With this, as a national agency mandated to ensure access to quality basic education for all, the Department of Education is committed to integrating the principles of gender equality, gender equity, gender sensitivity, non-discrimination, and human rights, in the provision and governance of basic education as indicated in the DepEd Order No. 32, s. 2017 entitled “Gender-Responsive Basic Education Policy.”

The Schools Division of the City of Mati recognizes that there is a need to strengthen its manpower resources and the performances of its constituents especially in advocating Gender and Development (GAD) programs and activities. As part of this strengthening, a Gender and Development (GAD) Corner shall be established and published on the division’s official website. The GAD Corner seeks to provide updates and relevant references, reports, and activities on gender and development initiated by the GAD Focal Point System (GFPS) of the division. It is also a valuable initiative that aims to promote gender equality and empowerment in the workplace and in the school community and will serve as a resource center, providing information, education, and advocacy on gender equality and women’s empowerment.

The Schools Division of the City of Mati will continue to promote gender equality and contribute to the improvement of learners’ academic performance, as well as increase its’ personnel’s sensitivity to the implications of gender inequality and address problems related to gender discrimination. The establishment of GAD Corner is a significant step in the strict implementation of GAD programs and projects in the division.
